Staged at Rugby Club Nada's Stadium, Split, Croatia over two days and nights, the Croatia Sevens 2006 involves 10 international teams competing for maximum points towards the International Rugby Board (IRB) European Sevens Series, in association with FIRA-AER.
Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 & Sunday, May 27, 2006.
The European Sevens Series (ESS) is part of the IRB’s annual sevens competition for Europe’s 30 rugby nations, run in conjunction with the FIRA-Européenne Association de Rugby (FIRA-AER), the game’s governing body for Europe. Participation in each stage of the ESS is determined by FIRA-AER each November. The ESS is only open to national representative teams, officially selected by each country’s rugby union. Six tournaments make up the IRB European Sevens Series; the Croatia Sevens is stage 2. The top 12 teams (on points) after the six stages qualify for the European Sevens Finals, held in Moscow in July 2006.
Portugal are the current European Sevens Champions, beating Russia 28-26 in the 2005 Grand Final.
